The film takes place in Switzerland at a time when New Economy reaches this small – once so secure and safe – country. Erwin Graf leads a middle class life in a middle class town. He has a wife and a daughter and a job like everyone else. Suddenly he is sacked after twenty years of working for the same company. Erwin is shattered and decides to keep his unemployment secret. He hopes to find a new job in a few days and in the meantime pretends to go off to work each morning. But as time goes by without any success he gets more and more depressed. His change of mood doesn’t go unnoticed at home and soon affects his relationships. The tension is unbearable. It’s the daughter who finally manages to unlock the held back emotions of her parents.
